Gothams Get 8-2 Win Versus Wandering
The rain came, as predicted, but the New York Gothams and Wandering House of David were able to complete their ballgame.

The New York Gothams converted a terrific effort from starter Christy Mathewson into a win over the Wandering House of David at Polo Grounds. The Gothams won the game by a final score of 8-2. Mathewson, now 3-0, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs.

Grant Johnson had a big 2-run home run for the Gothams in the bottom of the second inning. With New York trailing 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from Jack W. Taylor, who finished 4th in the AL in wins with 15 in 2000, and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Gothams on top, 2-1.

"We played a good game and came out on top," said Mathewson.

The loss has the House of David at 9-7.
