Spiders Nip Black Sox, 6-5
|
Tris Speaker was a major factor in the 6-5 Cleveland win over Baltimore. The Spiders center fielder hit 2 home runs. Ron Reed earned the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 1.2 innings. He upped his record to 2-0. Cory Gearrin was called on to finish, recording his 3rd save.
Speaker had a game-changing home run in the top of the tenth. On a 2-0 fastball from John Wetteland, he banged a solo home run to center, giving the Spiders a 6-5 lead. It was the 5th home run of the year for Speaker.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Speaker.
The Black Sox, now 5-12, continue their sluggish start.
