Getting offensive support from Dan Brouthers, the Brooklyn Royal Giants topped the Birmingham Black Barons, 7-4. Brouthers went 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Royal Giants. Earning his 1st save for Brooklyn was Eric Gagné. The loss puts Birmingham at 1-1.
Jackie Robinson had a big run-scoring double for the Royal Giants in the bottom of the third inning. With Brooklyn leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a slider from Bill Byrd, who finished 2nd in the AL in ERA with 3.33 in 2000, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Royal Giants ahead, 2-0.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Brouthers said.
