Black Barons Sunk by Mounties
Soggy conditions did not keep Ottawa and Birmingham from playing their scheduled game.

Birmingham had no answer for Ottawa Mounties hurler Roy Halladay, who overwhelmed Black Barons hitters as the Mounties coasted to victory, 8-1. The win gives Ottawa a record of 9-7.

Bob Watson had a big 3-run home run for the Mounties in the bottom of the first inning. With Ottawa leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he sized up a curveball from 25-year old left-handed pitcher Frank Viola and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Mounties on top, 5-0.

Watson called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
