Wolverines Jolt Black Yankees, 5-2, with Late Rally
|
Detroit and New York took Mother Nature's best shot and still managed to complete their ballgame.
The Detroit Wolverines topped the New York Black Yankees by a score of 5-2. Leading the way was first baseman Hank Greenberg. Greenberg was 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Wolverines. Detroit reliever Chad Bradford was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Goose Gossage took the loss.
Had Greenberg not come through in the bottom of the eighth, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Greenberg hit a run-scoring single. The Wolverines took the lead, 3-2, and never looked back.
Detroit manager Daniel Makonnen praised his team's "businesslike approach."
The loss drops the Black Yankees to 0-3.
