Stars Win at Home, 2-1
|
The Philadelphia Stars picked up a win at Shibe Park AL, topping the Brooklyn Royal Giants, 2-1. On the mound for Philadelphia was right-hander Hardie Henderson. He played a principal role in the triumph. Henderson got the win, improving to 3-1. He gave up 4 hits and walked 2 over 7 innings. He allowed 1 run. The save went to Bob Howry, number 4 for him.
Charles Rogan had a big solo home run for the Stars in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Philadelphia leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a slider from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Smokey Joe Williams and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Stars on top, 2-0.
"I was able to fill up the zone," said Henderson.
The defeat makes Brooklyn 8-9.
