Wolverines Sunk by Black Yankees
|
The New York Black Yankees picked up a win at Tiger Stadium, downing the Detroit Wolverines, 6-2. On the mound for New York was left-hander Ron Guidry, who played a pivotal role in the win. The loss puts Detroit at 6-14.
Babe Ruth had a big 3-run home run for the Black Yankees in the top of the third inning. With New York leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a curveball from 31-year old right-handed pitcher Charlie Root and punished it. The result was his 9th home run of the season, which put the Black Yankees on top, 4-0.
"Felt great, felt really good," said Guidry.
