Lajoie Powers Grays Offense
|
Getting a good performance from second baseman Nap Lajoie, the Homestead Grays defeated the Cleveland Spiders, 5-2. Lajoie was 3-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2 for the Grays. Ray Brown, the winning pitcher, improved to 1-1. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 3 hits and no runs, while striking out 4 and walking 5. Josh Lindblom collected save number 4.
With Homestead leading 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Lajoie hit a slider from Mel Harder for a 2-run home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Grays ahead, 3-0.
Lajoie called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
Cleveland falls to 5-13.
