Monarchs Squeeze By Houston, 2-1
|
Kansas City pitcher Bob Shawkey did his part in helping his team beat the Houston Colt 45s, 2-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Early on, the Monarchs, at 15-5, have played an impressive brand of baseball.
Ted Simmons was the walk-off hero for Kansas City. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Monarchs catcher hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"We need better swings, better at-bats," said losing manager Daniel Makonnen.
