Royal Giants Pick Up 7-4 Win Against Portland
|
Brooklyn and Portland put this game in the books despite some rain.
The Brooklyn Royal Giants cut down the Portland Sea Dogs by the score of 7-4, with the largest share of the credit going to first baseman Jim Gentile. Gentile was 3 for 3 with 3 singles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Royal Giants. Portland now is 13-9.
Vern Stephens had a big 2-run double for the Royal Giants in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Brooklyn leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a forkball from 29-year old right-handed pitcher Dizzy Trout and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 7th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Royal Giants ahead, 4-0.
"It feels good to get this one," Gentile told the Brooklyn Daily News.
