Memphis Red Sox starter Don Drysdale pitched his team past the Birmingham Black Barons, 6-2. Drysdale picked up the win for Memphis, going 5 innings. He gave up 1 run on 2 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0.

Memphis won the game in part because of Gabby Hartnett. The catcher ripped a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 4-1. For the game, Hartnett had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.

Memphis manager Daniel Makonnen commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
