The Ottawa Mounties picked up a win at Hilltop Park, dropping the New York Gothams, 2-1. Roy Halladay, who is tied for 6th in the NL with a 0.96 WHIP, was the difference-maker. Halladay yielded 1 run over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 0, and struck out 8. His record improves to 4-0. Earning his 3rd save of the year was Ryan Dempster.

Larry Walker had a big solo home run for the Mounties in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Ottawa leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from Christy Mathewson, who leads the NL in innings pitched with 35.2, and punished it. The result was his 9th home run of the season, which put the Mounties on top, 2-0.

"It wasn't easy, but we got it done," said Walker.

The Gothams drop to 11-12 and continue their mediocre start to the 2001 season.
