The Houston Colt 45s spoiled a good performance by New York catcher Thurman Munson, bumping off New York, 6-5, at Minute Maid Park. Munson was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times. The loss drops New York to 10-12.

The decisive blow was delivered by Gorman Thomas in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off 31-year old left-handed pitcher Ted Lilly to win the game for Houston. The home crowd went nuts.

"I'm just looking to see the ball, hit the ball," said Thomas.
