Royal Giants Deal Black Barons 4-3 Loss
|
Frank Knauss, who finished 3rd in the AL in ERA with 3.41 last year, propelled his team to victory over the Birmingham Black Barons. The final score was 4-3, Brooklyn. Eric Gagne closed out the game, earning his 7th save. The Black Barons drop to 8-15, as their fitful start to the 2001 campaign continues.
Brooklyn used a clutch at-bat from Mike Piazza to capture the win. The catcher hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Royal Giants ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"We had a good game plan," Knauss said, "and we were able to execute it."
