Homestead Defeated By Mounties, 9-5
|
Homestead got a terrific game from designated hitter Willie Stargell. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Ottawa, 9-5. Stargell went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. The win puts Ottawa at 12-11.
Rick Monday had a big 2-run home run for the Mounties in the top of the second inning. With Ottawa leading 1-0 and a runner on 3rd, he sized up a fastball from Francisco Liriano, who is tied for 8th in the NL in quality starts with 3, and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Mounties on top, 3-0.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Monday said.
