Houston and Birmingham duked it out and the Colt 45s came out victorious.

Casey Stengel made an impact in the 8-6 Houston win over Birmingham. Stengel hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Bret Saberhagen, the winning pitcher, improved to 2-1. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 7 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 6 and walking 2. Tug McGraw nailed down the save.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Colt 45s grabbed the lead when Stengel hit his 3rd home run of the season. The 2-run home run off Warren Spahn made it 6-5, Houston.

Stengel told the Houston Gazette: "Sometimes the big stage is not big enough for me."

The setback makes the Black Barons 8-17.
