Black Yankees Sunk by Black Sox
|
The New York Black Yankees could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Andy Pettitte into a win. Instead, the Baltimore Black Sox prevailed, 6-4. Pettitte threw 5.0 innings of shutout ball. The win was credited to 36-year old left-handed pitcher John Tudor in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Gary Lavelle took the loss. Baltimore, now 9-16, is off to a slow start.
In the bottom of the seventh, Baltimore second baseman Miller Huggins had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and one out, Huggins stroked a run-scoring single to right. It made the score 5-4, Baltimore. For the game, he went 3 for 5 with 3 singles.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Huggins told the Baltimore Today.
