The Memphis Red Sox defeated the Detroit Wolverines, 7-4, at Fenway Park. Leading the charge for Memphis was left fielder Ted Williams. He was 1-2 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. The Wolverines fall to 10-16 and continue their unimpressive start to the 2002 season.

With Memphis trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth, Williams hit a changeup from Charlie Root for a 3-run home run. It was his 12th home run of the season and put the Red Sox ahead, 6-4.

"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Williams.
