Schmidt Slugs Black Yankees to 9-5 Win
The New York Black Yankees powered past the Chicago American Giants, 9-5, at Yankee Stadium. Mike Schmidt hit 2 home runs. He drove in 6 runs and scored twice, to lead the charge. Ron Guidry got the win, improving to 3-1. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 6 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 11 and walking 1. The loss puts Chicago at 17-11.

With New York leading 2-1 in the bottom of the third, Schmidt hit a fastball from Ed Walsh for a 3-run home run. It was his 6th home run of the season and put the Black Yankees ahead, 5-1.

"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Schmidt.
