ABCs Snatch Late-Game, 2-1 Win
|
Indianapolis beat Houston at Minute Maid Park, eking out a 2-1 win. The win was due in large part to designated hitter Luis Padrón. He threw 6.2 innings of 3-hit ball. Norm Charlton came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. His record now stands at 1-1. The win brings the ABCs to 8-20, an awful start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Barry Larkin? The 24-year old shortstop Larkin stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put Indianapolis up, 2-1. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Indianapolis skipper Daniel Makonnen.
