Fine Effort by Callison Not Enough in 9-8 Gothams Loss
The Ottawa Mounties and New York Gothams obliged fans looking for a good time.

New York left fielder Johnny Callison was sensational. He hit 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Ottawa beat the Gothams, 9-8. Bill Smith claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2.1 innings. His record stands at 2-0. Ryan Dempster locked down his 5th save.

Sam Thompson had a big 2-run home run for the Mounties in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Ottawa trailing 8-7 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a changeup from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Don Sutton and punished it. The result was his 6th home run of the season, which put the Mounties on top, 9-8.

Thompson told a Ottawa Gazette reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.

The loss has the Gothams at 16-15.
