Monarchs Lose to Grays, 6-3
|
Homestead picked up a win at Muehlebach Field 1923-1941, bumping off the Kansas City Monarchs, 6-3. Pitcher Ray Brown was a major reason the Grays emerged victorious. The winning pitcher was Brown, now 3-2. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 2. With the win, the Grays hiked their record to 19-15.
In the top of the sixth, Homestead right fielder Roberto Clemente had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 2nd and two out, Clemente stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 4-3, Homestead. For the game, he went 3 for 4 with 3 singles.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Clemente said.
