Grays Best Black Sox in Pitching Duel
|
The Homestead Grays and Baltimore Black Sox put on a pitchers' duel.
The Homestead Grays picked up a win at Forbes Field, knocking off the Baltimore Black Sox, 2-1. On the mound for Homestead was right-hander Ray Brown. He played a key role in the triumph. With the loss, Baltimore sinks to 10-23.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Grays had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, when second baseman Nap Lajoie hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Jim Palmer and made the score 2-0, Grays. Lajoie was 1-2 with a hit by pitch.
Brown called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
