Cuban Giants Prevail, 6-5, Over Baltimore
|
Thanks in large part to right fielder Gary Sheffield, the Miami Cuban Giants beat the Baltimore Black Sox, 6-5. Sheffield went 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Kenshin Kawakami earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 3 innings. He upped his record to 2-0. Ricky Nolasco earned the save for Miami, his 5th.
Sheffield had a big at-bat with runners on 1st and 2nd in the top of the fifth inning, when he hit a 2-run double. The Cuban Giants went on to win.
"We took home the win," said Sheffield. "What's not to like?"
Miami, at 17-18, sits in 4th place in the American League Cumberland Posey Division.
