Clemente Powers Grays to 6-2 Win
|
The Homestead Grays dealt the Baltimore Black Sox a 6-2 loss at Forbes Field. Roberto Clemente, who leads the NL with a .696 slugging percentage, was the star on offense. He was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. Doug Drabek got credit for the win, improving to 3-1. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 5 innings. Homestead now sits at 17-16, while Baltimore falls to 10-24.
The Grays got a big at-bat from shortstop Honus Wagner. For the game, Wagner went 1-3 with a double and a walk, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 7th double of the season gave Homestead a 2-0 lead.
Wagner attributed the win to his team's "grittiness."
