Win Makes Philadelphia 18-18
|
The Philadelphia Stars locked up a win at Shibe Park AL, knocking off the Birmingham Black Barons, 6-4. On the mound for Philadelphia was left-hander Steve Carlton. He played a major role in the triumph. The winner was Carlton. He threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball. The loser was Alejandro Peña. Birmingham's current losing streak is now 4 games.
The Stars got a big at-bat from first baseman Ted Kluszewski. For the game, Kluszewski went 1-4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 8th double of the season gave Philadelphia a 3-1 lead.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Kluszewski. "And not try to do too much."
