Black Sox Drop Red Sox, 6-5, with Late Score
|
The Memphis Red Sox and Baltimore Black Sox provided some drama for the home crowd.
Black Sox left fielder Ken Singleton left his mark on his team's 6-5 win over the Memphis Red Sox. Singleton was 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Baltimore in the contest. Jim Palmer, now 2-5, was credited with the win in 3 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 0. Joe Beggs closed the door for Baltimore, picking up his 6th save of the year.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Paul Blair? The slick-fielding center fielder Blair stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the eighth inning to put Baltimore up, 6-4. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"Fun game," said Blair, "even when the outcome was in doubt."
The Black Sox raised their record to 15-27.
