Sea Dogs Absorb 7-5 Home Loss
|
The New York Black Yankees defeated the Portland Sea Dogs, 7-5, in part because of third baseman Mike Schmidt. Schmidt was 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Black Yankees. Goose Gossage closed it out for his 5th save. With the win, New York raised its record to 26-16.
Schmidt had a game-changing double in the top of the sixth. On a first pitch fastball from Dizzy Trout, he banged a 2-run double to left-center, giving the Black Yankees a 5-3 lead. It was the 9th double of the year for Schmidt.
"Just trying to keep things simple and helping the team win any way I can," Schmidt told a local reporter after the game.
