Tarpons Earn 4-3 Win Versus Mud Hens
|
The Tampa Bay Tarpons had to overcome a fine effort from Toledo pitcher Doug Bird to grab a narrow 4-3 win at Plant Field. Bird went 6 innings and allowed no runs. The winner was Danny Darwin in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Frank Woodward took the loss. Tampa Bay goes to 57-40. The win puts them 10½ games up in their division.
The Tarpons beat the Mud Hens with some clutch hitting. The single by Charlie Neal in the bottom of the eighth is a good example. With two down, Neal gave his team the lead, 4-3, when he came through with the big hit.
After the game, Tampa Bay manager Travis Jackson applauded the team's effort. "They busted their humps out there," he said.
