Brooklyn right fielder Beals Becker had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Becker was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 3 runs, even as Philadelphia beat the Royal Giants, 8-6. J.M. Ward, the winner, improved to 1-1. He held Brooklyn to 3 runs on 6 hits over 6 innings, while racking up 8 strikeouts. The Stars, now 21-24, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.
