Tarpons Get Hard-Earned Win, Stop Red Caps, 4-3
The Tampa Bay Tarpons picked up a win at Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, knocking off the Jacksonville Red Caps, 4-3. Starting pitcher Jim Owens was a big reason why. Owens picked up the win for Tampa Bay, going 8 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 11-8. Rich Garces recorded the save, making him 33 for 35.

With Tampa Bay trailing 3-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, the Tarpons fortunes got a boost when catcher Darrin Fletcher turned a 1-1 fastball from Bruce Ruffin into his 20th home run of the season. The hit scored 3 and put Tampa Bay up, 4-3.

"Our guys are never satisfied," said Tampa Bay manager Travis Jackson.
