Black Barons Trip Stars, 6-5, in Extra Innings
|
The Birmingham Black Barons walked off with a big win.
Philadelphia got a terrific game from first baseman Ted Kluszewski. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Birmingham, 6-5. Kluszewski was 4-5 with 4 singles. Birmingham reliever Harley Young was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Robin Roberts.
The Black Barons got a clutch hit from catcher Jim Pagliaroni. In the bottom of the 11th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Black Barons.
"We had a chance to win," said Philadelphia manager Daniel Makonnen, "but we didn't get it done."
The win puts Birmingham at 17-32.
