Black Barons Lose to Monarchs, 7-1
|
The Kansas City Monarchs topped the Birmingham Black Barons, 7-1, in National League action at Muehlebach Field 1923-1941. The game was highlighted by the performance of Kansas City pitcher Matt Morris. Morris yielded 1 run over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 4, and struck out 2. His record improves to 1-1. Kansas City is third in the National League Marvin Miller Division with a record of 76-79.
The Monarchs got a big at-bat from center fielder Cool Papa Bell. For the game, Bell went 1-3 with a double. He drove in 3 runs. In the bottom of the second, with the bases loaded, he stroked a bases-clearing double. His 7th double of the season gave Kansas City a 3-1 lead.
Said losing manager Daniel Makonnen: "The list goes on and on of things we just flat out didn't do."
