Black Barons Beaten By Royal Giants, 5-2
|
Brooklyn got a strong outing from Dick Redding as the Royal Giants defeated the Birmingham Black Barons, 5-2, at Rickwood Field. Redding, now 2-0, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. With the victory, the Royal Giants upped their record to 98-63.
Beals Becker had a big 2-run home run for the Royal Giants in the top of the fourth inning. With Brooklyn leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a sinker from 29-year old right-handed pitcher Charlie A Morton and punished it. The result was his 39th home run of the season, which put the Royal Giants on top, 4-1.
Redding called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
