Royal Giants Deal Black Barons 4-3 Defeat
|
The Brooklyn Royal Giants beat the Birmingham Black Barons, 4-3, at Rickwood Field. The win was due in part to first baseman Dan Brouthers, who was 3-4 with a double and 2 singles. Brooklyn reliever Burleigh Grimes picked up the win, raising his record to 4-4. Warren Spahn was tagged with the loss. Eric Gagne was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 39 of 46 save opportunities.
Brouthers contributed in the top of the fourth. With a runner on 1st, he hit a run-scoring double. It was one at-bat among others that helped Brooklyn get the win.
Brooklyn manager Daniel Makonnen called it "a darn good win."
With the win, Brooklyn raised its record to 99-63.
