With 5-0 Win, Grasshoppers Improve to 27-24
|
The Greensboro Grasshoppers topped the Wichita Witches, 5-0, in WBL Mid American action at World War Memorial Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Greensboro pitcher and Troy, Michigan, native Corky Valentine. Greensboro reliever Corky Valentine got the win, raising his record to 4-3. Ross Detwiler was tagged with the loss. The win lifted the Greensboro record to 27-24.
Phil Nevin had a big 2-run home run for the Grasshoppers in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Greensboro leading 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a curveball from Ross Detwiler and swatted a home run to left-center. It was his 10th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Grasshoppers ahead, 4-0.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Valentine. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
