Sheckard Stars in 8-6 Gothams Win
|
The New York Gothams trumped the Indianapolis ABCs, 8-6, at Crosley Park. New York left fielder Jimmy Sheckard was terrific. He was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. With the win, New York pushed its record to 27-25.
New York relied on the hitting of Willie Mays to pick up the win. The center fielder clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Gothams on top, 6-2. For the game, Mays had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said New York manager Daniel Makonnen.
