Providence Drops Dayton, 2-1
|
Starting pitcher Elmer Steele held up his part of the bargain, helping the Providence Clamdiggers stymie the Dayton Marcos, 2-1. In 8 innings, Steele surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Sean Burnett, credited with the save, is now 3 for 4 in save opportunities.
A crucial at-bat came with the bases loaded and two out in the top of the seventh inning. That's when third baseman Miguel Sano, who is the 2nd-best prospect in the Clamdiggers organization, drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Clamdiggers went on to win.
"There are no moral victories," said losing manager Danny Romanowski.
Providence has won 5 consecutive games.
