Clamdiggers Claw Out 2-1 Win
|
Starting pitcher Moose Haas took care of business, helping the Providence Clamdiggers stifle the Des Moines Demons, 2-1. In 8 innings, Haas surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Pedro Ramos was credited with the save, his 4th in 5 tries.
Matt Wieters had a go-ahead double for Providence in the top of the first inning. With two out and runners on 1st and 3rd, the 29-year old catcher hit a 2-run double off Ray Washburn. His 11th double of the season made the score 2-0.
"Every loss hurts," said Des Moines manager Mark Hoffstatter. "But this was a tough one."
The victory gives the Clamdiggers a record of 56-31.
