On Road, Black Barons Top Colt 45s, 5-0
|
The Birmingham Black Barons picked up a win at Minute Maid Park, knocking off the Houston Colt 45s, 5-0. Starting pitcher Greg Maddux played a key role in the triumph. Maddux picked up the win for Birmingham, going 6.1 innings. He gave up no runs on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 5-5. The Black Barons raised their record to 20-36.
Curtis Granderson had a big 2-run home run for the Black Barons in the top of the fourth inning. With Birmingham leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from Roy Oswalt, who finished 2nd in the AL in innings pitched with 207.0 last year, and punished it. The result was his 16th home run of the season, which put the Black Barons on top, 3-0.
Granderson said his team "played with focus."
