Grasshoppers Turn Away Demons, 3-2
|
Starting pitcher John Burkett took care of business, helping the Greensboro Grasshoppers stifle the Des Moines Demons, 3-2. In 8 innings, Burkett surrendered 9 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 2. He allowed 2 runs. Ernie White earned his 21st save in 26 tries.
Paul Schaal went 1 for 3 with a double and a walk for Greensboro. The 23-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With two out and a runner on 2nd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring double off Bill Phyle. It was his 17th double of the season.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Schaal said.
At 55-58, Greensboro is in 5th place in the WBL Mid American INDY A - Northeast.
