Wild Card Round Game 1 Victory for Grove and San Francisco
The San Francisco Sea Lions started the Wild Card Round in style, downing the visiting Detroit Wolverines at Oracle Park by a score of 5-2 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Sea Lions left-hander Lefty Grove threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball.

With one out in the bottom of the third, Rickey Henderson barreled up a changeup from Charlie Root. The result was a 2-run home run, putting the Sea Lions in front, 3-0.

Said losing manager Daniel Makonnen: "The at-bats, obviously, needed to be better."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Oracle Park in San Francisco.
