Host Wolverines Drop Pivotal Game 5, Now Trail Series 3-2
The San Francisco Sea Lions defeated the Detroit Wolverines, 13-11, in Game 5 of the Wild Card Round. A big contributor was right fielder Bobby Bonds, who hit 2 home runs. He scored 4 times and drove in 2. The win moves San Francisco into a 3-2 lead in the series.

In the top of the first, Jack Clark ambushed a 0-1 fastball from Charlie Root and hit a 2-run home run. It gave San Francisco a quick 2-0 lead.

"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Daniel Makonnen said.

The next game is set to be played for Thursday, October 11th , 2001 at Oracle Park in San Francisco.
