Martinez Blasts Sea Lions, Wolverines Take Game 6, 5-4
|
The Detroit Wolverines and the San Francisco Sea Lions will take the Wild Card Round to a decisive 7th game. In a must-win situation, the Wolverines beat the Sea Lions, 5-4, at Oracle Park to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Detroit designated hitter J. D. Martinez hit 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice.
Martinez contributed in the top of the fifth. With a runner on 1st, he hit a 2-run home run. It was one at-bat among others that helped Detroit get the win.
"It's true for every sport, I think, but the playoffs are so short that you've just got to get in and get hot," Detroit manager Daniel Makonnen told BNN after the win. "We took care of the first part and now we're just working on the second."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Oracle Park in San Francisco.
