Cleveland Wins at Home to Take 2-1 Lead in WC
|
The bats were silent for much of the day at League Park. But Cleveland right fielder Larry Doby conjured up just enough offense to carry the Spiders past the New York Black Yankees, 2-0. In a game dominated by the pitching staffs, Doby went 1-3 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The Spiders now lead 2-1 in the best-of-7 series.
Had Doby not come through in the bottom of the seventh, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Doby hit a 2-run home run. The Spiders took the lead, 2-0, and never looked back.
"Clutch hitting plus clutch pitching usually equals a win," said Doby.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at League Park in Cleveland.
