Almost There: Brooklyn On Cusp of WC Triumph After 12-9 Win
Indianapolis center fielder Oscar Charleston pounded Brooklyn Royal Giants pitchers at Crosley Field, but it was not enough to keep the ABCs from falling, 12-9, in Game 4 of the Wild Card Round. Charleston was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and a double, while scoring 3 times and driving in 4, though he couldn't keep the ABCs from slipping to a 3-1 deficit in the best-of-7 series.

Ron Cey, who finished 4th in the NL in slugging percentage with .656 in 2001, came through for Brooklyn with a 2-run home run in the top of the third. The third baseman went 2 for 5 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 1 run and collected 2 RBI.

"We have been clicking right from the start of this series, so our mission statement at the moment is just don't tinker with anything," Brooklyn manager Daniel Makonnen told reporters.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Crosley Field in Indianapolis.
