Almost There: Houston On Cusp of WC Triumph After 13-6 Win
|
Riding the 2-hit performance of center fielder Pete Hill, the Houston Colt 45s got a road win against the Philadelphia Stars, 13-6, in Game 4 of the Wild Card Round. Hill went 2-4 with a triple and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2 for the Colt 45s, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 3 games to 1.
In the top of the sixth, Houston right fielder Tony Gwynn had a productive at-bat. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and two out, Gwynn stroked a 2-run single to center. It made the score 8-4, Houston. For the game, he went 3-6 with 3 singles. He drove in 4 runs.
"It's on me," said Stars manager Daniel Makonnen. "The guys I sent out there today were the wrong ones for the situation. I'll be sure to send the right ones out next time."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Shibe Park AL in Philadelphia.
