The New York Gothams grabbed a win, 6-3, over the Birmingham Black Barons at Polo Grounds. New York designated hitter Yasiel Puig was 3-4 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 2. New York reliever Pete Donohue was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Larry Benton. New York raised its record to 29-26 with the win.

New York took a 5-3 lead on Mark Loretta's 4th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Loretta hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Birmingham pitcher Steve Bedrosian shaking his head.

"I just tried to make good contact," said Puig.
