With Late Score, Black Yankees Beat Sea Lions
|
Both teams had their chances, but the New York Black Yankees eventually prevailed.
The New York Black Yankees knocked off the San Francisco Sea Lions, 3-2, in American League action at Oracle Park. New York pitcher and Brooklyn, New York, native Waite Hoyt had an outstanding performance. New York reliever Herm Wehmeier picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Eddie Plank was saddled with the loss.
Héctor López came through with a big-time hit for New York. The third baseman smacked a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 3-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"I went out and just tried to do my job," said Hoyt.
The win gives New York a season record of 39-19.
