Royal Giants Upend Mounties, 6-4
|
The Brooklyn Royal Giants beat the Ottawa Mounties, 6-4, at Hilltop Park. The Royal Giants got a fine performance from third baseman Ron Cey, who went 2 for 3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Orel Hershiser, who went 5.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 6 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 7-3. Earning his 12th save of the year was Eric Gagne.
Brooklyn used the hitting of Beals Becker to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Royal Giants on top, 3-0. For the game, Becker had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"Solid performance from our side," said Royal Giants manager Daniel Makonnen.
The win elevated the Royal Giants to 31-28.
