Spiders Win, 6-2, at Chicago
|
With third baseman Evan Longoria leading the charge, the Cleveland Spiders defeated the Chicago American Giants, 6-2, at South Side Park. Longoria, who is tied for 10th in the AL in doubles with 17, went 3-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Cleveland reliever Firpo Marberry picked up the win, raising his record to 3-0. Mark Buehrle was tagged with the loss. The win puts Cleveland at 32-28 this season.
In the bottom of the seventh, Joe Jackson stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The American Giants were trailing 5-2, but had runners on 1st and 2nd. That's when Ron Reed made a terrific pitch and Jackson flied out. Gone was the dream of a Chicago comeback.
