Black Yankees Use Late Score to Top Black Sox, 6-5
|
Baltimore got a big-time effort from pitcher Johnny Sain, but it wasn't enough to keep the New York Black Yankees from winning the game, 6-5. Sain threw 7.0 innings of 2-hit ball for the losing team. Aroldis Chapman, credited with the win in relief, is now 1-2. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. New York leads the American League Bill James Division by 7½ games.
Thurman Munson came through with a big-time hit for New York. The catcher smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 6-4. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Munson, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
